Imagine yourself immersed in 400 years of history by wandering along the cobblestone streets filled with quaint stone houses, the romantic musical sound of glasses clinking, and the beautiful French language from the nearby chic outdoor patios, as day becomes night.
No, I haven’t been to Paris yet; but from what I experienced in Québec City it might feel something like this!

Québec City was one of the first places that I traveled to solo, and trust me; I couldn’t have chosen any better. One of the pleasantest sensations in the world is to awaken in a strange, beautiful town with excitement in your heart knowing there’s plenty to explore on your own because if you’re waiting for someone to travel with you, you may end up waiting a lifetime.
The summer of 2021 seemed perfect to organize my blind date with Québec City.
There are various options for accommodation, hostels being quite popular with solo travelers in Québec. However, I usually prefer Airbnb living like a local and feeling relaxed, refreshed, and recharged before I venture out on my daily adventure. This charming little city has quite a lot to offer which is best explored on foot.

My heart inevitably fell in love with not only the charming European architecture but also the lovely, amicable locals, food, and culture. One of the best things to do in Québec City is to do nothing at all and just take your time to soak it all in. There’s a little something for everyone to discover inside the ramparts of the old city walls.
Five Can’t Miss Things to do in Québec City
1. Dufferin Terrace and the Chateau Frontenac
At twilight, I went for a stroll around the Parliament building, Notre Dame de Québec, and Chateau Frontenac in Upper Town. The most photographed hotel in the world looks no less than a castle and is worth a visit. Wandering along Dufferin Terrace has an entirely different vibe at night with the magnificent view of the St. Lawrence River as well as live musicians and street performers on the boardwalk. The gorgeous walking path gives a calm and peaceful aura.

2. Montmorency Falls
Did you know you could walk on top of this breathtaking waterfall and feel its power as it rushes and roars beneath your feet? It’s truly a sight to behold. Montmorency Falls is a great field trip from Québec City to spend a perfect day zip lining, riding a gondola, or trekking up close to the falls. It would be unthinkable to miss this hotspot for someone who loves nature and waterfalls.

3. Quartier Petit Champlain
The medieval European atmosphere of this charming and pedestrian-friendly neighborhood tugged at my heartstrings. It’s one of the most beautiful streets in North America filled with bustling bistros, art galleries, exclusive and one-of-a-kind boutique shops, cute houses in all colors, and live music. One can spend countless hours and yet keep coming back to this district for its enchanting ambiance.

4. Ferry Ride to Lévis
The ferry trip to Lévis at sunset is undoubtedly the quintessential way to unwind and be charmed by the striking views of the city skyline. The round-trip ferry ride is one of the most inexpensive activities in Québec City and it’s enthralling to feel the fresh breeze off the river on a hot summer day. Quai Paquet is a stunning amusement park offering a panoramic view of Québec City and the St. Lawrence River.

5. Indulge in gastronomic pleasures
The culinary heritage of Old Québec is not to be missed when chic Parisian cafes and restaurants surround you. Try the local food, wine, and beer, or the food tour in the Old Town. The popcorn or the hot chocolate from the local vendor shops is to kill for. From exquisite chocolates to French bakeries and fresh grocers, there’s no dearth of options.

I often find myself making excuses to revisit this charming, quaint city...perhaps next Christmas, when it is covered underneath the layer of snow full of enchanted Narnia-like hidden wardrobe cozy vibes that leads me to France.
